Me at 14 Months Old!

I am now 14 months old!!! I have two teeth on the bottom middle and I have two on the top middle that are almost here! My mom thinks maybe tomorrow they'll be all the way through and then by the end of the week, they should be easily seen!! My teeth make my smile look so different!!

Here arr some of the things about my 14th month:

How I Grow:
  • Stoop and stand up (I can already do this)
  • I'm interested in small things like crumbs, bugs, and pebbles
  • Spend a lot of time just staring at things; this is the way I learn.
  • I may be afraid of the dark.
How I Get Along With Others:
  • I like to have mom and dad (or anyone) play with me.
  • Sometimes I drop things just to get you to pick them up for me.
  • I don't much like playing in a room by myself.
  • I may have tantrums and throw things when I'm angry.
How I Talk:
  • I can let you know when I want something like a glass of milk.
  • I like putting sounds together.
  • I really try hard to make you understand me.
  • I like to repeat words you say.
  • I like you to tell me the names of things pictured in a book.
What I Have Learned:
  • I have not yet learned what is dangerous for me to do.
  • I may scream just to show you how powerful I am.
  • I have learned pat-a-cake and like to show it off to appreciative audiences.
  • Sometimes, not often, I will respond to a firm "no-no."
What I Can Do For Myself:
  • I can hold a spoon, but I probably can't eat with it yet.
  • I like to feed myself with my hands and smear food on my face and everything I can reach.
  • I can open and close doors.
Play I Enjoy:
  • I like putting little things in big things.
  • I like to listen to music and dance to it.
  • I'm beginning pretend play like driving a pretend car.

Here's what What to Expect the Second Year says mom can expect over the next month:
Most toddlers will probably be able to...
  • Stand Alone (yes)
  • Cruise (yes)
  • Walk with help (don't need it)
  • Wave bye-bye (sometimes)
  • Put an object into a container (and dump it out again) (yes)
  • Eat with their fingers (yes)
  • Say "mama" and "dada" intentionally (yes and it's the most amazing thing!)
  • Follow a 1-step direction such as, "Pick up the block please." (yes)
  • Imitate others (clap when someone else claps, for example) (hmmm... haven't seen him do this)
Half of all toddlers will be able to...
  • Walk well (yes)
  • Push a toy with wheels while walking (yes)
  • Pick up an object from the ground while standing (without holding onto anything) (yes)
  • Point to a body part when asked (yes- Gus can identify his nose)
Some toddlers may be able to...
  • Pull a toy while walking (yes)
  • Imitate with an object (use a phone to "talk" or s sponge to "clean") (he used the phone to call my parents today... does that count???)
  • Use a spoon or fork to eat, once in a while (yes)
  • Drink from a cup independently (open top? not unless someone is holding the cup- but then yes he can)
  • Say 3 words (nothing understandable yet)
A few toddlers may be able to...
  • Run (yes)
  • Climb steps (yes-- and we're practicing going down now)
  • Build a tower of two cubes (he is working on it)
  • Match shapes in a shape sorter (some of the shapes he can do)
  • Say six words or more (again... nothing we can understand but he does talk all the time)
  • Follow a two-step direction (starting to be able to do this)
So there you have it... all the fun that's to come in the 14th month!!

Here are some pictures from today:
