Me at 20 Months!

What a crazy month this has been!! Have you been following all our posts over on the Walker Family Prattle? Mom posts to it several times a week and adds pictures daily! You should definitely check it out and subscribe if you haven't already!!

Here's what the Great Beginnings newsletter has to say about me being twenty months old!!

How I Grow
  • I can run without falling too often.
  • I can stand on either foot holding on.
  • I still like to climb on everything.
  • I don't know about safety so I count on you to keep things safe for me to explore.
How I Talk
  • I can say about 15 words.
  • I like to listen to nursery rhymes.
  • I ask a lot of questions, mostly by saying "why?" or "what's that?" Be patient with me. I am just trying to learn.
What I Have Learned
  • I'm beginning to know what things are for, like a hammer is for banging.
  • I can draw an up and down line pretty well.
How I Get Along with Others
  • I want to keep my toys to myself and I may hide them so others can't play with them.
  • I need time to get to know people; I'm afraid of some people.
  • I like to do things without adult help.
  • I may be less friendly to adults but this is just temporary.
What I Can Do for Myself
  • I can let you know when I need dry clothing.
  • I go to bed without complaining.
  • I can feed myself pretty well.
Play I Enjoy
  • I like to have you sing to me.
  • I like making mud pies and pretending to eat them.
  • I like to take toys apart.
  • I like rides and walks.
  • I like to look at myself in the mirror.

Here's what "What to Expect the Second Year" says about 20-22 Months:
Most toddlers will probably be able to...
  • Run well
  • Squat
  • Throw a ball underhand
  • Take off an article of clothing
  • Enjoy playing with clay, musical instruments, and other manipulative toys
  • Follow two-step directions
  • Say 10-20 words
  • Set simple goals (such as deciding to fill a bucket with water and bring it to the sandbox to wet the sand)
Half of all toddlers will be able to...
  • Open doors
  • Walk down stairs with assistance
  • Play with simple puzzles
  • Understand (though not use) as many as 200 words, or just about everything said to them
  • Say 50+ words
  • Recognize when something is identified incorrectly (like when a "cat" is called a "truck")
Some toddlers may be able to...
  • Wash and dry hands
  • Understand opposites (hot vs cold, for instance)
  • Name family members (or other people) in pictures
  • Say 50-100 words
  • Follow three-step directions
A few toddlers may be able to...
  • Play tag
  • Put on an article of clothing
  • Put on shoes (although not always on the correct feet)
  • Fold a piece of paper in imitation
As you can see, there's a lot happening with me right now!! I'm not doing all of these things yet, but it's what I have to look forward to in the next two months!

It's crazy to see how big I've grown in just a year!

I've been showing signs of being ready to try the potty... but because I'm teething and have loose poops, mom is going to wait a bit before starting. We figure, if it doesn't work this time around, we'll try again later. I just HATE being in a wet diaper and I do a good job of letting mom know... usually I take my pants off and if that doesn't work, I'll just rip my diaper off!!

So far we've been doing a good job of settling into our home and routine here in Georgia. Mom has taken me to a playdate and I've had some new friends come over to our house to play. I miss Grace, Hadley, Maddie, and Reagan, but I know I'll make friends here. I have a new friend coming over tomorrow and I'm really excited to meet her!!

Be sure to stay up to date with what we're doing on our family share site! If you sign up, you'll automatically get an email reminder each week with updates to the site. If you're daring, you can go on daily to see the new pictures and read the journals that mom writes. She also has videos posted there too (and a calendar)!! It's pretty awesome!! It's on Shutterfly too, so if you see a picture that you just have to have, you can order it right from the site! Cool right???

See you next month on here and later on the share site!!
:-)
Gus
