Gus & Steve ready to head inside
Tonight we attended our first Member's Only event at the Zoo Atlanta. This is the first family event of the year that we've been able to attend, and one that we thought would be worth attending with Gus.
I wasn't sure what the parking was going to be like- the website said it was "limited." Hmmm... I was hopeful that since the MOE started at 5:30 and the zoo closed for non-members at 6:00, that there'd be people leaving as we were arriving. I was correct in my assumption, and as a result, we scored a great parking spot (there were people parked out on the street and down side streets for this event).
Let's Go!!
The wait in line to get into the zoo was not bad at all. All the lanes were open (there were like six or seven) and since it was for members, there was no payment needed. All you had to do was show your card and ID and you got a wrist band and a map and that's it. It was nice.
As soon as we got inside, we put on our wrist bands and headed over to see the elephants. Right away there was a mini-exhibit of an armadillo baby running around. Gus was super excited to see it and I took some pictures of it.
Isn't it cute??
Then we went over to see the elephant, the warthogs, the merecats, and the giraffes/zebras/ostriches.
Warthogs are so gross
Pointing at the giraffes :-)
Then we went to see the lion and the gorillas. It was feeding time for the gorillas, but we didn't see anything up close, due to a crazy amount of people standing there watching.
Hello Mr. Lion :-)
All the gorillas gathered for food
Gus had the best seat in the house!

He loves to help push the stroller
Checking out another gorilla
We then we and saw the sun bears, the tigers, the otters, and the pandas. When we came around the corner from viewing the pandas, everyone was gathered to see the tigers being fed. We couldn't see anything, but you could most certainly hear them!!
The sun bear looks so cute-- just like a teddy bear!
One of the tigers laying around... ready for food
I love this picture <3
HUGE crowd watching/listening to the tigers being fed... then we went around the corner...
And had a CLEAR as day view of this guy! It was so funny to see a giant crowd and then nothing and you could see him sitting right there!! :-)
At this point, we had seen everything. Zoo Atlanta is a really nice sized zoo-- not too big and not too small. Gus was ready to go play in the play area, so we decided to give him twenty minutes to play before we headed home.
LOVE THIS!!!
An owl on the way to the play area
I think playing in the play area was his favorite part of tonight!
On our way out, we saw the panda and otter characters. I was curious to see how Gus would do with them... and being that we're preparing for a November trip to Disney, I was hoping that he wouldn't be too afraid of the characters. HE WAS FINE!!! It was so great!!!
Me and Gus and the cute panda
He decided to touch the otter's nose and then poke him in the eye :-)
All in all, it was a wonderful night and we had a great time. It was my third trip to the zoo and Steve's first. I think he had fun too and it was nice to go at dusk. It was 89 when we arrived at 5:30... so it made for a hot and humid night, but it wasn't horrible. We'll definitely go back in the fall when it's a little cooler.
Totally ready to be home
We got home and had pizza for dinner. Gus was up past his bedtime (didn't go to bed until 9:30) so we're hoping that we'll get to sleep in tomorrow!!
